The only information I have has come from Benjamin's Guide, Watson's NSB and the internet.
The only disc images have come from Bill Humphreys and John Moran.
The REA auction of Dietz Seal Craft is useless unlil the winning bidder shares information.
=======================================================================
Here goes....below are the backs of four disc sets
1. The Seal Craft "Set of 240", one series, numbered 1-240.
....Dietz Gum issue, newspaper issue.
2. The Seal Craft "Set of 90", having four series. I show the back of one series.
....advertising does show four series, so I feel safe in saying "90".
....newspaper issue.
3. The Seal Craft "Safety Set" of 12.
....anyone want to comment as to why "49th State" is shown on a St Louis disc ?
....newspaper issue.
4. The issue called, but refuted by many, "Leader Discs"; total unknown. (much thicker
than the other three issues)
....note this set has four notches.
("Leader Flag and Indian discs" are redrawn images - different than the set of 240 pictures)
("Leader College discs" show college pennants -- set of 240 show college seals)

I need lots of help
1. from Older people that remember buying Seal Craft in 5-10 cent stores in the 30s.
2. from Collectors that have type 2 (issued in series) advertising different newpapers.
3. from Collectors that have type 4, so they can be documented.

Scans
1. We certainly could use more back images for type 1...we do have 240 fronts
2. We certainly could use more fronts and backs for type 2 and 4.

If I scan my 240 backs for the "series of 240", I'd need lots of cropping help.

If I scan my "series of 90" fronts, I'd need lots of cropping help.

===============================================

Like I mentioned.....480 images + 180 images + 12 images + ?? Leader images = a very tough webpage(s)

Just noticed. Sealcraft Air insignia backs I have, the numbers reflect front numbers n have different writing, than backs, you have. May have been earlier issue, as back numbers are different than front, on yours. the country is the same

Ads seem to indicate that newspapers issued the set of 240,

yet other ads say "four groups" (set of 90)

Below is just one ad (we have many for the web page),

and two envelopes for two newspapers and samples of the "panels of six"

that were repeated in newpaper ads over and over......enjoy....

There seems to be ONE college (St.Louis) in my Set of 90 that is not in

the Set of 240 (my set of 90 was issued in St. Louis)

After reading all of Dan's great posts (and much of the research information that he shared with me), I've come up with the following that will be added to future NSB editions....the vast majority of this comes from pouring over Dan's images and comparing them to my own collection. His endeavors into sharing information should be applauded by all...

Similarly, I know that both he and I welcome additions, insights and thoughts on any of the following (sorry in advance for formatting issues...it's cut and pasted from my publishing program):

SEAL CRAFT DISCS

        30s - Seal Craft/Dietz Gum Co./newspapers 56 mm dia.

        U.S.A.         [2 series]

These unique cards are shaped like discs with pairs of die-cut slits on four sides that were used for joining them together with small rubber bands (design patent awarded to Herman Lowenstein in 1936). A fad (at least as promoted by the manufacturer) developed at the time of issue to see what kind of crafts, articles of clothing or household items one could fabricate with the discs. Although they were distributed in three manners during the latter half of the 1930s, Seal-Craft appears to have been the manufacturer for all methods of distribution. The primary method of marketing appears to have been on a national basis. It also appears that all were manufactured as 6-card panels that contained five sequentially numbered discs and a trader (duplicate). Each series can be divided into multiple subseries based on subject matter. Cards are printed on thick white-coated card stock whose surface is quite prone to chipping. Because of their intended use, finding cards in top condition can be challenging. Two unique American Card Catalogue numbers were assigned based on the whether the series was issued nationally or regionally. (ACC# R123 & M30)

        National Series

                240 numbered die-cut cards (+var.)

The primary method of marketing this series appears to have been by packaging three 6-card panels and enough rubber bands for joining them in open-ended envelopes (sixteen different envelopes would account for the 240 different discs) for sale in toy and game sections of department stores. Seal-Craft appears to have been directly responsible for this method of distribution, as all discs and envelopes seen to date identify only this manufacturer. Because of this method of distribution, previous guides have surmised that this issue was erroneously assigned an R number in the American Card Catalogue; however, a recent box find now explains that discs identical in every way to those of the National Series were also marketed by the Dietz Gum Co. in conjunction with a product known as Seal-Craft Chewing Gum (purchasers of the 1 cent spearmint-flavored product got to choose a single disc and rubber band from the assortment scatered within the box). Seal-Craft logos remain prominent on the gum box, so given the scarcity of the gum box it is possible that disc overstock was sold off in this way near the end of the fad. Seven different subseries were issued: Aircraft Insignia [Ai], Animals [A], College Seals [C], Dogs [D], Flags [F], Indians [I], and Pirates [P]. The card depicting the Sweden aircraft insignia (#51) can also be found misprinted as card #5 (likely representing an overprint trader printing error on its respective panel). Cards from the last 4-5 panels may be slightly scarcer than all others, and some subseries are certainly in more demand (i.e. Pirates). The checklist is generated from titles found on card backs which often differ from the front, especially in the Indian subseries. (ACC# R123)

        Regional Series

                120 unnumbered die-cut cards

This regional series was issued in the 1937 by at least four different mid-west newspapers (promotional mailing envelopes have been identified for each newspaper, but discs unique from the National Series have not - producing the assumption that some of the newspapers simply offered the National Series discs with their promotion). Since Seal-Craft manufactured the discs in St. Louis, it would seem logical that the company would have been able/willing to accommodate printing requests of the local newspaper better than others from outside the immediate area. This assumption is further supported by newspaper advertising for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette identifying that 240 brightly colored seals (consistent with the National Series total) were available. The one newspaper for which discs with designs or logos unique from the national series have been identified to date is the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. Furthermore, discs associated with this manufacturer contain three different back formats which produce the series total: (1) ninety that can be found with a back analogous to the national issue - with card title/number, descriptive text about the obverse picture, identification of individual subseries total/title (i.e. Animals [A], Aviation Insignia [Ai], Colleges [C], Indians [I]), and a small round seal-craft logo which also identifies St. Louis Globe-Democrat - new 6-card panels could be procured weekly, presumably through the mail, by saving three different dated coupons from the comics section of the newspaper, (2) eighteen with a square inset containing a generic advertisement promoting the new fad which describes how they would be available through the newspaper during January-March 1937 - these were likely the initial issue, perhaps given out with newspapers, to announce the new promotion, and (3) twelve generic Safety Legion backs which, for some unknown reason, seem to promote the 49th State and also contain a small round seal-craft logo which also identifies St. Louis Globe-Democrat. Some artwork found in this regional issue is not present in the national release (i..e. St. Louis Globe-Democrat issued twelve Safety Legion discs and a card depicting the local University of St. Louis). Several variation discs may exist since original newspaper advertising exists which offered to pay one dollar for either marred seals (i.e. copies of the Mexican Aircraft seal which contained the word beautiful on the face) or for examples of Chief Hollow Bear which sported four feather instead of three in his headdress. Whether either of these variations was actually produced (or was simply a ploy designed to increase enthusiasm for the promotion) remains unknown. (ACC# M30)

This was commented on in that recent-ish two part Wrapper article covering Seal Craft Discs. The program was referring to itself as the 49th state.
