Thought this series of clippings would be of interest....

Seems like Thomas H Hall was a bit of a baseball fan, dating back to his youth in Hoboken, playing himself (see the fourth clipping).

He created the Hall Cup for the 1888 World Series, at great expense, crafted by Tiffany's of New York.

The trophy was taken to St Louis by Thomas Hall's brother-in-law, Daniel Chanfrau.

Afterwards, the Hall Cup was put on display in New Haven, where Hall spent much of his time with his first love of yachting - something for a future posting.
