I just added some cards to my partial checklist for the Canadian Shredded Wheat Movie Stars 1952 set. This is an old checklist on my site, but has never been completed.

[anon-niven24M]

Note that because of the number in star, these cards are sometimes mistaken for a couple of 48-card number in star Canadian sets that I believe were issued with Hamilton Gum. The Canadian Shredded Wheat cards have a narrower width, and I believe all have a J. Arthur Rank notation. Here is the checklist I have so far, any additions are most appreciated.

1.
2. Googie Withers in "White Corridors"
3. Joan Rice in "Curtain Up"
4.
5.
6. Fred MacMurray in "Borderline"
7.
8.
9. Dirk Bogarde in "Organisation's Hunted"
10.
11.
12. Cecil Parker in "His Excellency"
13.
14. Yvonne De Carlo in "Hotel Sahara"
15. John Mills in "The Gentle Gunman"
16. Michael Redgrave in "The Importance of Being Ernest"
17.
18. Glynis Johns in "The Promoter"
19. Valerie - Hobson in "Meet Me Tonight"
20. Jack Hawkins in "The Cruel Sea"
21.
22.
23. Jane Hylton in "It Started in Paradise"
24. David Niven in "Appointment with Venus"
25. Anthony Steel in "Ivory Hunter"
26. Joan Collins in "I Believe in You"
27. Yolande Donlan in "Penny Princess"
28.
29. Alec Guinness in "The Man in the White Suit"
30. Sir Laurence Olivier in "The Magic Box"

Thanks Troy - I have no help here, but I really appreciate your knowledge on these variant sets.

Troy,

Were there multiple series or multiple years of issue with similar design?

Heritage Auction had an auction last year for a set and the examples pictured do not match your checklist.

I also found a 1951 version with different stars, but this also is different from your checklist.

The set I posted was definitely issued with Canadian Shredded Wheat, I have an article from January 1953 that discusses them. I don't think those other two sets were issued with Shredded Wheat, I think they have been linked to Shredded Wheat because of the similarity of the number in star on the front and they were issued around the same time. In John Bell's Canadian Non-Sports Catalogue, he mentions that a Hamilton Gum wrapper has been seen for one of those sets, so Hamilton is likely the issuer of those.
